Sheikh Mohammed to honour figures for supporting reading
Forty-five federal and local public figures who contributed significantly to supporting the reading campaign during the Year for Reading, will be honoured during the UAE National Day anniversary, said Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
The annual celebration that had been used to honour top Emirati achievers, would be allocated this year to felicitate 45 personalities, as per the vice president’s instructions.
The move follows the declaration of 2016 as the Year for Reading in the UAE by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Individuals and agencies in seven different categories will be honoured. During the ceremony, 45 medals will be awarded to distinguished personalities who had supported reading in the presence of Sheikhs, ministers, officials and members of the Federal National Council.
Their achievements will be archived in the Cabinet and a book will be issued to cover their resumes, distinctive and winning initiatives during the Year for Reading.
Sheikh Mohammed said that the national day anniversary is the best time to honour those figures in recognition to their initiatives, which reached 880 - these initiatives deserve encouragement.
"The reading community is a civilised one, and those who back reading support civilisation and the future," he added.
