Shop fast, shop smart: Trolley race for Dh2,000 Eid prize

As part of Eid festivities, malls and supermarkets across the UAE are not only offering attractive deals but also hosting unique competitions to lure customers.

Nesto Hypermarket in Al Buteena, Sharjah, will host a trolley race competition on Thursday [October 17], while Eid shoppers at Lamcy Plaza can try their luck in the fastest shopper contest.

While, up to Dh2,000 in prize money awaits the lucky winner, even regular shoppers can win gift vouchers. Siddique Palollathil, Director, Nesto Group, said, “The latest fun event is a trolley race.”

The race is organised jointly by the Nesto Hypermarket of the Western International Group and the Dubai-based Malayalam FM station, Hit 96.7, part of the Arabian Radio Network.

Mithun Ramesh, Head of Programmes, said Hit 96.7 FM radio station will select 20 listeners at the rate of two listeners per day during a five-day on air campaign. “

The Trolley Race will be a two-hour marathon shopping competition from 6pm to 8pm. 

Each participant will be given a shopping trolley and a shopping list of 20 items. The smart shopper who completes the shopping in the shortest time will get the first prize of Dh2,000 cash voucher from Nesto Hypermarket.

The second prize winner will get Dh1,500 and the third prize winner Dh1,000.

“Each person visiting Nesto Hypermarket to watch the trolley race show also will get a free gift voucher of Dh100,” Mithun explained.

Each participant will be given different list of products, selected from all the three floors of the 240,000 square feet mall.

The race will start from the first floor of the mall and will end on the ground floor, but participants are free to take their own route as well as choose a partner, he added.

Mithun adds, “During Eid in Dubai, a fastest shopper contest will be held at Lamcy Plaza.

“Participants will be selected ‘live’ at the mall and each participant will be given a shopping voucher of Dh500. Their challenge will be to shop the maximum number of products with the given amount without repeating themselves. If it is fruit, they have to buy just one piece of apple or banana. The first prize will be Dh1,500.”
