A speeding vehicle slammed into a car parked on the hard shoulder killing a Pakistani motorist instantly on the Dubai-Abu Dhabi highway.
The accident, which happened under the Shahama Bridge on Sunday evening, is another example of growing road rage, particularly on the busy highway, reported Khaleej Times.
A senior Abu Dhabi Police official said that the driver of the speeding car was so ruthless that he smashed into a car that was parked on the side of the road for some emergency repair, leading to the victim’s immediate death.
“He was inspecting his vehicles when a speeding vehicle driven by an Arab national hit him. The impact of the accident was so severe that accident victim was tossed high in the before falling down on his car. He died on the spot,” said Captain Jaber Al Mansouri, Head of Accidents Investigations at Abu Dhabi Police.
The officer advised motorists to wait at ‘safe’ sides of the highways if they come across any emergencies or vehicle breakdown before seeking any help. However, this accident shows that there are not many safe places on the highway.
Al Mansouri also urged motorists to avoid driving on the hard shoulder, which would attract penalties, as it is dedicated for emergency use only.
“It is strictly forbidden to drive on hard shoulders of the highways. Motorists must avoid illegal overtaking which is one of the main causes of accidents. Motorist must also stick to speed limits clearly marked for particular roads,” he advised.
