11 underage girl students molested by school principal

The local magistrate has remanded to police custody the principal of a school in Galkiriyagama, Kekirawa in Sri Lanka’s North Central province till May 22, for allegedly sexually molesting 11 underage school girls, ‘Divaina’ newspaper reported on Monday.

The 45-year-old suspect, a father of two, identified as A. M. P. Dissanayake from Unduruwa and principal of Galkiriyagama Primary School, was produced before acting magistrate Vipula Wickramanayaka on Saturday.

Earlier, following a complaint by the mother of one of the girls to the Galkiriyagama police, an investigation was started on Wednesday.

Police sources said the mother had questioned her child after seeing blood stains on her school uniform.

The suspect surrendered to the police through his lawyer.

According to the police, girls as young as nine years were molested by the suspect in his office when the children stayed back after school hours for free tuition classes.

. The suspect will be produced at Kekirawa Magistrate’s Court on May 22.

Three children rescued from violent father

Three children who suffered severe physical abuse at the hands of their drunken father have been admitted to the Nawalapitiya District Hospital, reports ‘Lanka Mirror’.

The suspect hit and kicked his children, whipped them with a nylon rope and burnt them with a hot iron. They were then locked up in the kitchen until the next day.

The children were rescued by the Nawalapitiya police who arrived at the scene after a tipoff.

The three children are two girls aged 11 and 13 and an eight year old boy.

Their mother went abroad two years ago to work as a housemaid and the children were brought up by the father and their grandmother.

The children told the police that their father beat them and scolded the grandmother every night after coming home drunk. On this day, they were beaten on the charge of stealing a ‘pawpaw’ from a shop.

The boy is unable to walk due to burnt feet and has injuries caused by whipping with the nylon rope.

The children to be produced before the Nawalapitiya Magistrate’s Court after medical treatment.

The father was produced before the Nawalapitiya Magistrate Courts after being arrested.
