14-year-old raped by grandad on vacation

Colombo - A 63-year-old man who allegedly raped his 14-year-old granddaughter was arrested by the Sri Lankan police.

The girl's mother works as an expat worker in the Middle East. Meanwhile, the teenager lives away from home to attend school, and had gone to her paternal uncle's home in the village during the holidays.

The girl was sexually assaulted while she was staying there. Apparently, she had been raped several times already when the incident came to light.

A neighbour's child saw the girl being assaulted by her grandfather and exposed the disgusting assault.

The Giribawa Police was informed who took the suspect into their custody.

According to a statement given to the police by the girl’s aunt (mother’s elder sister ), she had also been raped by the same suspect when she was 12 years old. However, she had not filed a complaint to the police.

The victim had been produced before the Judicial Medical Officer for examination, the police stated.

The Giribawa Police Crime Investigation Division is conducting further investigations.
