Four 19-year-old boys allegedly kidnapped a 20-year-old and sexually abused him in the southern Sri Lankan coastal town of Ahangama, the ‘Mirror’ newspaper has reported.

The victim was abducted while returning home from the hotel where he worked.

Police has arrested the gang which also robbed the victim of his mobile phone and Rs6,000 after threatening him.

Woman dumps newborn into lavatory

A 28-year-old Sri Lankan woman is alleged to have killed her newborn baby by dumping it into a lavatory immediately after birth.

Police recovered the body from the lavatory pit on information given by the medical Superintendent of the Base Hospital in Diyatalawa.
The woman, who had been admitted to the Diyatalawa Hospital in critical condition, was taken into custody by the police.

An autopsy on the newborn delivered a verdict of homicide.

Father sets himself on fire after son refuses to give Rs500,000

A 98-year-old Sri Lankan man set himself on fire on Sunday in anguish after his son refused his request for Rs500,000 , the ‘Mirror’ reported.

The old man had sought the amount from the Rs1.5 million that his son had made from a land sale.

The man, who has been severely burnt, is currently being treated at the intensive care unit of the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital in Galle in the south of the country.
