Grandma arrested for chaining grandson

A four-year-old Sri Lankan boy, who had been kept chained by his grandmother, has rescued by the Puttalam Police.

The 62-year-old grandmother was arrested for cruelty to minors.

Sources at the police headquarters said the boy's mother had gone to the Middle East about 10 months ago and his father had left for Jordan for employment about one and a half years earlier. The mother had been compelled to leave her son in the care of her mother.
 
The OIC of the Women's and Children's Bureau of the Puttalam Police, Sub Inspector Nilmini, under instructions from SP Anura Abeywickrema, had raided the house after receiving information about the small boy being kept in chains.

When questioned, the grandmother confessed to chaining her grandson till she finished cooking and other household chores.
