Law student stabs professor for rejecting assignment

SRI LANKA: A student  stabbed a female lecturer of the Open University in Nawala with a big silver knife. The student had fallen ill after consuming something and was admitted to the Kalubowila Hospital where he was arrested by police officials.

Police officials confirmed that the accused student, Shivagnanasundaram Surendrajith had stabbed the female divisional head of the Open University with a knife. The student who was pursuing the studies in the Law Faculty was also a doctor.

According to police, the accused had failed to submit a report on one of his subjects on time and as a result the divisional head had refused to accept it after the deadline. Infuriated, the student had stabbed the victim with a knife and consumed some liquid rendering him ill.

The female lecturer was rushed to Kalubowila Hospital for treatment.

Police spokesman SP Buddhika Siriwardhana revealed the suspect is a resident of Jaffna, is also a doctor who studies law in the Open University.
