Lover returns underage girl to parents, flees

Police in Sri Lanka is searching for a youth who ran away with underage girlfriend, lived with her for several months as husband and wife and returned her to her parents’ home on Valentine’s Day, the ‘Lankadeepa’ reported.

The 15-year-old girl, who had started an affair with the youth, had eloped with him on September 11 last year without the knowledge of her parents and had lived together in a house belonging to the youth’s relative.

The girl’s parents complained to the police after the youth leaving the girl at her house on February 14 and fled.
 
Intelligence division chief commits suicide

The chief of an intelligence division  of Sri Lankan police has been found dead in a paddy field in Godagama on Sunday, the ‘Island’ reported.

Police suspect that Inspector W. M. Samarakoon had committed suicide by shooting himself with his service revolver.

Investigators have found his motorcycle and the official firearm beside his body along with a letter inside his pocket.

A father of two, Samarakoon lived in Nugegoda with his family.

He had obtained his service revolver on Saturday (February 15) evening from Dehiwala police and had returned to the station at around 10pm, leaving a note that he had completed his task without mentioning anything about the revolver, police said.

IP Samarakoon’s 18-year-old son said his father came back around 11pm on Saturday night and left home in a hurry.
