Police in Sri Lanka has arrested a 32-year-old man for making his 15-year-old sister-in-law pregnant, the ‘Sunday Mawbima’ has reported.

Police in Kilinochchi said, about six months ago, the girl had gone to watch TV at night to her elder sister’s home where she had slept along with her sister’s family in the sitting room and her brother-in-law had raped her.

After six months, when the girl complained of abdominal pain, doctors at Kilinochchi hospital had declared her pregnant after an examination. She then told police about the incident at her sister’s place.

A police officer said blood samples of the girl and her brother-in-law had been submitted to Genetech Institute for a test.

Meanwhile, the newspaper also reported that another suspect had been arrested for sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl at Karawitagara in Chilaw.

The victim used to visit her elder brother’s home to watch TV at night. On the day of the incident, a youth had raped her while she was returning home.

She had lodged a complaint with the police through the village headman as she though that it would be of no use to tell her mother about the incident, police said.

The suspect was due to be produced before the court.
