Man kills wife with sword then commits suicide after heated argument over her parents

Panduwasnuwara police in Sri Lanka said that a young man in anger smashed his 21-year-old wife on the head with a sword and later hanged himself at a public cemetery in Thoragalla, ‘Mawbima’ reported.

According to the police, the 23-year-old man from Ambagahawewa in the Panduwasnuwara police division was angry with the wife’s parents because they had opposed their marriage.

The seriously injured young woman identified was admitted to the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital for treatment.

Police said the couple had been quarrelling over the woman’s parent’s disliking to their marriage and the young man attacked the wife with a sword and then committed suicide.

The crimes division of the Panduwasnuwara police is conducting an investigation.

Dancing master remanded for sexually abusing underage girl

A dancing teacher sexually abused an 11-year-old girl several times and was arrested by the Mahawa Magistrate and District Judge Damitha Wijesinghe in Sri Lanka, “Lankadeepa” reported.

The 40-year-old married man was a dancing teacher in an art institute.

The girl was first victimised by the suspect in January while her parents, farmers, had gone out of the house for farming activity.

Later the suspect abused the girl on several occasions after showing her offensive videos through his mobile phone, police said.

The suspect was arrested after the girl and her mother lodged a complaint at the Polpithigama police station which said that the victim was hospitalised for medical examination.

Further investigations are being conducted by the Polpithigama police and National Child Protection Authority.

Swords, air rifles, daggers found from a British woman’s house

The Mirihana police in Sri Lanka discovered a haul of arms in a house at Embuldeniya, Mirihana, occupied by a British woman and a Sri Lankan man, “The Island” reported.

After a thorough investigation, the Mirihana police recovered 242 swords, 16 air rifles, 45 large daggers, 53 small daggers, 60 knives, 56 toy pistols, 16 tins of air rifle pellets and 11 binoculars hidden in a room.

Only the British woman and two servants were in the house when police raided the two-storey house. When the officers asked about her Sri Lankan partner, she told them that he had gone to Hambantota on a business matter.

She claimed that she was unaware of presence of the arms in the house when the police questioned her.

The police said that the British woman and her Sri Lankan partner had moved into the house about two years ago.

The arms found had been sent to the Government Analyst while further investigations being carried out by the Mirihana police.
