A man in Sri Lanka allegedly raped his wife’s younger sister after locking up his spouse in a room of their house, the ‘Mirror’ newspaper has reported.

The 15-year-old victim, who lived in the alleged culprit’s house, was dragged to a place called ‘Naigala Kanda’ (Snake Rock) in the Massmulla forest reserve in Sri Lanka’s southern province and raped, according to police in Kamburupitiya, the newspaper said.

Villagers searching for the missing girl had found her in the forest reserve.

Police is investigating the case while the girl has been hospitalised.

Woman dies after jumping in front of train

A mother of three committed suicide by jumping in front of a moving train, presumably due to her inability to pay off a loan, making it the second such tragedy within a month.

In the earlier case,  a woman from Nawalapitiya killed herself by jumping into the Mahaweli River because she was unable to return borrowed money.

In the second incident, a woman from Ethgala in Gampola jumped in front of the Colombo-bound train from Badulla. The 48-year-old woman had borrowed Rs50,000 without her husband’s knowledge and had been unable to repay the loan.

Loan recovery officers had visited the woman’s house before she took her life.
