Neighbour hacks youths to death
A four-member gang led by a next door neighbour hacked a 24-year-old youth to death while his father, mother and brother were attacked with swords and clubs on Saturday evening at Danketiya in the southern Tangalle region of Sri Lanka, ‘The Island’ newspaper has reported.
Surviving members of the family were seriously injured in the brutal attack after the gang stormed their house.
Nuwan Chameera of Sangabo Mawatha succumbed to his injuries at the Karapitiya Hospital in Galle in the early hours of Sunday.
Police said that no arrests had been made yet, although the suspects, who had fled the village after the attack, have been identified.
A long standing dispute between the attackers and the victims was said to be the reason for the attack.
According to the police, the attackers suspected that the victims were leaking information to the police about their illegal cannabis (ganja) business.
