Mum's missed call brings misery to child

A Sri Lankan woman’s missed call to an unknown man over a year ago brought immense misery to her daughter, according to a report in the ‘Mawbima’ newspaper.

After the missed call, the 48-year-old woman from Angurumulla, Wattahena in Gampola and the 23-year-old youth from Dehiwala became friends and he came to stay in her house.

Taking advantage of the woman’s absence from home, the youth raped her 12-year-old daughter several times over the past year, the newspaper said.

Following a police complaint by the woman, the youth was arrested and remanded till March 3 by a magistrate in Gampola.

The victim, a Grade 7 student, has been hospitalised for medical examination.
