Son who hurt his mother hangs himself

A 17-year-old Sri Lankan youth assaulted his mother and then ran into the jungle and committed suicide.

A resident of Kuda Kannoruwa area in Meegalewa, Sri Lanka, the accused, SMR, hanged himself to a tree, ‘Mawbima’ reported.

Annoyed by the consistent and excessive advices by the mother, the teenager severely beat the mother who was hospitalised with injuries. She was first admitted to Ehetuwewa rural hospital and then transferred to Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital for further treatment, Meegalewa Police said.

The teenager’s body was found hanging to a tree by a woman who had gone to jungle to collect firewood. She informed Meegalewa Police and the village officer about the body who shifted it to the hospital mortuary. Police are further investigating the case.

The youth’s father told police in a statement that his son ran away fearing arrest by the police. He reportedly searched for his son in all the neighbourhoods and relatives’ home, but couldn’t find him.
