Sri Lanka and Saudi Arabian governments are on the verge of signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in connection with migrant Sri Lankan workers, Foreign Employment and Welfare Minister Dilan Perera said.

‘Daily Mirror’ reported that while air tickets were being awarded to teachers who had found employment in the Seychelles island, he said at a media conference that the government had already signed MOUs with   Oman and Kuwait governments.

“For the first time the Saudi Arabian government had agreed to sign an MOU regarding migrant workers after it had repeatedly rejected such requests previously. The MOUs will include the welfare measures necessary to protect Lankan migrant workers. We have also signed similar MOUs with the governments of Oman and Kuwait,” the minister said.

He also said on the recruitment of housemaids, discussions are being held to introduce a quota system to the Middle East.
