Colombo: A stepfather allegedly beat his 4-year-old daughter with a hammer to her chest and legs and then dragged her to the courtyard where he hit her time and again.
The stepfather has been remanded till March 9 by Gampola Magistrate, ‘Mawbima’ reported.
In a complaint lodged to the police, it was revealed that the man had burnt the victim’s body parts also on a previous occasion for not counting till ten.
A resident of Yatipiyangala area in Nayapana, the victim’s mother asked the little girl to bring in a hammer and nails but she got delayed which upset the stepfather and then he assaulted the girl.
When he dragged her to the courtyard, her elbows, thighs and other parts of the body were bruised.
When the suspect’s parents shouted at him not to assault the child, he hit his mother with brick and attacked his father also resulting in an injury to the old man’s hand.
The suspect’s parents were admitted to Gampola hospital where the child was also undergoing treatment.
