Teen couple 'united' on a rope

Colombo: A 16-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl committed suicide, by hanging themselves in Morathota, Ruwanwella, over a failed love affair, a local media reported.

A police spokesman’s stated that the boy committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree in front of the girl's house while the girl hanged herself in her room traumatised by his act.

The teen couple, who were neighbours, used to meet each other outside their  homes at night. However, when their parents learnt about their relationship, they were reprimanded.

The parents even got other elders counsel them.

It is said that the couple had taken this drastic decision due to embarrassment.

Ruwanwella police is conducting further investigations.
