Underage girl to marry 50-year-old uncle
Colombo: A 17-year-old young woman entered the Nawalapitiya district hospital to deliver a baby conceived with her 50-year-old uncle, ‘Gossip Lanka’ reported.
The young woman, a resident of Kalaweldeniya area in Ginigathhena, grew up at her aunt’s home for years and suddenly her aunt passed away.
She loved her lonely uncle and began living with him.
When Ginigathhena police initiated an investigation, the old man told the police that he was going to marry her and she too had confirmed it saying she loved her uncle and ready to marry him.
Although, there is no legal provisions for such a marriage, the young woman has been admitted to the hospital.
She had told the hospital that age was not a barrier for marriage and that she would marry her uncle as soon as she becomes a major.
Woman arrested with underage youth
A mother of one from Jaela has been arrested by Wellawaya police on Tuesday (20) from a rented home at Yalabowa area, with a 17-year-old youth.
Police said the woman, who has been married thrice, has a seven-year-old child from her second marriage, ‘Mawbima’ reported.
The youth belongs to a wealthy family in Jaela.
They were living in the Yalabowa area where they had rented a house by pawning the woman’s jewellery, police investigations revealed.
During the past one-and-a-half-month, the missing youth’s father and relatives had been searching for him, when they got to know that he was in Yalabowa.
The couple was arrested and produced before Wellawaya Magistrate Janitha Perera.
The woman has been remanded till November 3.
