Woman exposed her nude body to monk

A woman has been remanded to police custody by a local magistrate for exposing her nude body to a Buddhist monk in Sri Lanka, the ‘Mirror’ newspaper has reported.

The woman had also attempted to pull the robe of the monk Ven. Pothupitiye Panyasiha Thero of Panadura Galgodawila Vihara, the paper said.

According to a complaint by the monk, the woman, who lives close to the temple, tried to harass him in an obscene manner over a property dispute with the temple.

Police warn of fake marriage proposals

Parents in Sri Lanka have been warned by police to safeguard their daughters from being duped by fake marriage proposals, the ‘Daily Mirror’ reported.

Suspects in this racket have used the women to pay for their house rents, vehicle repair and purchase of electronic products.

As many as 25 complaints have been received recently from cheated women who were either widowed or divorced.

Earlier, such racketeers would sell their victim’s jewellery. They now use the women’s money to meet their requirements.

Schoolboys try to abduct schoolgirl

Sri Lankan police have arrested two students of a leading school in Colombo and two other youths on Monday while attempting to abduct a schoolgirl travelling in a private bus, ‘The Island’ has reported.

The victim was a student of a private girls’ school in Nugegoda and a resident of Maharagama, according to a police spokesman.

The abductors had stopped the bus in front of the Teacher Training College at Maharagama as the girl was returning home after finishing her examination.

Responding swiftly to an emergency alert, the Maharagama police arrested the four youths who had arrived in two vans.

The suspects, who are from Polgasowita, had been released on police bail but will be produced before the Gangodawila Magistrate.
