The defence lawyers of the five accused in Tamweel–Bonyan International corruption case requested the Dubai Court of Appeal to be given the opportunity to make their views and defence regarding the Appeal’s Court preliminary sentence.

The court accepted the request and decided to bring ahead the date for reconvening to December 8 from December 22 which has been scheduled in the previous hearing.

In the previous hearing the court has ordered the formation of a three-member committee headed by a financial auditor from Dubai Financial Control Department to further investigate the case in which five senior executives identified as: Tamweel's ex-CEO, AA, 38; ex-commercial president, AA, 44; former executive director SM, 40, (all are Emiratis); former director of its investment department, FK, 28; and Bonyan's former board chairman, AS, 33; both Jordanian nationals, were accused of accepting bribes, breach of trust, and exploiting company’s secrets to make personal benefits.

The court was supposed to award its verdict in the case in the previous hearing but decided to form a three-member committee headed by a financial auditor from Dubai Financial Control Department for further investigation.

All of the accused have pleaded innocent and denied charges of abusing public office, wasting public funds, bribery and financial irregularities and the Appeal Court has granted bail to all of them.

The First Instance Court in May 2009 awarded varying jail terms and ordered them to pay Dh35 million as fines and Dh10 million to Tamweel finding them guilty for embezzling about Dh45m.
