A heavy truck carrying construction material caught fire early morning on Emirates Road after a car crashed into it.

The early morning crash near Al Kawaneej exit on the Emirates Road resulted in tailbacks and slow-moving traffic. Some lanes had to be blocked, and it took about three hours for all the lanes to be opened again.

Speaking to Emirates 24|7, a Dubai Police officer said the accident happened early morning at around 3am and a car hit the heavy vehicle’s tyre, causing a fire.

“It took three hours for us to clear the area. There was no casualty in the accident, but the car driver is injured and hospitalised,” the Dubai Police source confirmed.

“I was going from Sharjah to Abu Dhabi with gravel and a car came and hit my truck. When it hit the truck tyres, the vehicle caught fire. We managed to escape unhurt in the fire, but the vehicle is almost fully burnt. I too went to the hospital and was discharged, but the car driver is in hospital,” said the Asian truck driver, who survived the crash unhurt.

“The car driver lost balance and it overturned. When he hit my truck, I too lost balance and the vehicle swerved and caught fire," the driver added.
