The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has called on the UAE nationals planning to travel to the European Union (EU) states to comply with the travel guidelines and log into the Citizens' Affairs page on its official website.

The move comes within the framework of the MoFA's keenness to facilitate their travel and accommodation and protect them from any hassles they may encounter abroad.

In a statement, the MoFA said, "There is no indication about any official abolition of the Schengen borders by EU countries.

“There are temporary procedures in place regarding group immigration to the Schengen states. This has triggered informal conclusions.

“There will be controlling mechanism in place along Germany's border with Austria, which may require travellers to show their passport, return tickets and hotel bookings."

The Ministry said the UAE citizens must respect all the laws of the destination states and cooperate with the official bodies in order to present an honourable image of the state.

It also called on the Emiratis in the EU countries to adhere to the guidelines and instructions and keep the passport and copy of the ticket and hotel bookings while on the move in the Schengen countries.

It also urged the citizens to register with the ‘My Twajudi Service’ before undertaking any travel to enable the Ministry and the missions abroad to communicate with them in cases of emergency and crisis during their travel and presence abroad through the website of the Ministry of www.mofa.gov.ae or the smartphone application ‘UAEMOFA’.

The Ministry recommended keeping the emergency numbers handy to communicate with it or the state's mission and also specified the number 00971- 600599991 allocated for countries where there are no diplomatic representations of the UAE, in case of any emergency.
