The General Command of the UAE Armed Forces, in a statement Wednesday, announced that a UAE Air Force fighter jet taking part in the international patrols to enforce the No-Fly Zone over Libya, veered off the runway after landing at an air base in Italy due to bad weather.

"The pilot had to eject from the plane to save his life and minor damages were caused to the plane's frame," the Armed Forces said.

The fighter jet's participation in the military operations is in accordance with the UN Security Council's Resolution No. 1973, according to the statement.

"The UAE's engagement in military international air patrols is based on its interest in contributing any possible effort to protect Libyan civilians, and therefore the UAE Air Force has committed six F-16 and six Mirage aircraft to participate in the patrols that now enforce the No Fly Zone established over Libya.
