UAE Traffic: Which roads free, which not

With schools reopening after the two-week mid-term break, Sunday commuters will have to brave some intense traffic congestions.

Scanning the social media networks, we report which routes to take to avoid long delays.

The usual suspects are flagged, with traffic from Sharjah toward Dubai on Al Itihad Road building up from near Sharjah City Centre up until Al Qiyadah metro station.

Commuters can alternately take Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, which is surprisingly showing no traffic clogs. Even, traffic on Al Khail road is fairly smooth, with just some patches of slow-moving traffic. Emirates Road is also fairly smooth.

At 8.30am, the traffic towards Sharjah on Sheikh Zayed Road, starting just after the Burj Khalifa metro station up until the Dubai World Trade Centre roundabout, is showing congestion. This is reportedly due to an accident.

At 8.38am, Traffic DXB, a twitter handle that monitors Dubai road traffic, reported, “Bumper to Bumper traffic on E66 Oud Metha Rd starting from Al Khail Rd intersection towards Wafi due to schools and on-going construction.”

At 8.14am, they said, “Super congestion on #SMBZR starting from Sports City all the way upto DIP roundabout towards #AbuDhabi.  Delays !  Delays !  Drive safe.

Around 7.55am, congestion as Ras al Khor was reported. The tweet read, “Congestion as Ras Al Khor merges with Al Khail road towards Dubai. Drive safe!”

Around the same time, an accident was reported on “E611-Emirates Rd after Maliha Rd intersection towards AbuDhabi causing congestion and delays. Please drive carefully”.

Another accident was reported on “Meydan street diagonally opposite Our Own Indian School, towards Jumeira. Traffic backed up till Al Khail.”
