An unlicensed motorist ran over an Ethiopian woman in Sharjah’s Darrari area while she was crossing a road, killing her instantly.
Rescue units and ambulances arrived on the scene within minutes of the accident, but the woman was found dead, Gulf News reported.
"The motorist fled the scene but we managed to arrest him within two hours of the accident," said a Sharjah police official.
The driver has been referred to Sharjah Public Prosecution, facing multiple charges.
The accident which took place on Sunday is the latest in a series of run over accidents in Sharjah as three other women were killed in separate hit and run accidents in the emirate.
