'Vigilant Eye' nabs maid with Dh500k of stolen gold

The CID at the Sharjah Police Department, in cooperation with the General Directorate of Abu Dhabi Police have foiled a robbery and an attempt to smuggle gold jewellery worth an estimated half a million dirhams (Dh500,000).

In an operation code-named ‘Vigilant Eye’, an Ethiopian national working as a maid in Sharjah, in violation of the laws of residence, stole the gold from an Arab family's home.

She then went to Al Ain to escape the country, but quick investigation by the authorities and their speed in solving the crime saw her arrested before she could leave the UAE. She was arrested for possession of the gold jewellery, in cooperation with the Al Ain Police.

The Sharjah Police have appealed to families not to employ fugitives because of the risk of such crimes.
