Wedding for 56 Saudi couples @ Dh1k

A Saudi tribe paid only SR1,0000 (Dh1,000) for the wedding of each of 56 couples as it pursues a campaign to slash soaring marriage costs in the Gulf Kingdom.

Thousands of people attended the wedding in the Western Taif town, including tribal chiefs, relatives, singers, poets and officials who came to show their support.

‘Ajel’ newspaper said the wedding took place in a large tent and the 56 grooms were all from Bani Al Hassan tribe, adding that it was the second low-cost wedding in Taif.

It said each groom paid SR1,000 for the wedding to the tribe chief as was the case in the first mass wedding of 100.
