A Saudi woman went to court and asked the judge to drop her father’s custody on her after he refused repeated pleas by her and her sister to get married so he can keep their monthly salaries, a newspaper said on Sunday.

The 36-year-old woman told court in the southern town of Baha that she and her 45-year-old sister had tried many times to persuade their father to agree to their marriage but that he had adamantly refused, Okaz reported.

“The woman said many friends in town also tried to convince him but he rejected their pleas….she said the father rejects their marriage because he does not want to lose their salaries,” the paper said.

“The judge tried to reconcile the woman with her father but she refused and asked for ending his custody on her…after she refused to return home, the judge decided to send the woman to a social care centre pending a solution.”
