A 35-year-old Egyptian woman walked into her house to find it packed with mourners who had come for her funeral after police arrested two men who confessed to murdering her, Egyptian newspapers reported.

The two were tracked down and arrested by Egyptian police near a small village in north Egypt after the woman’s husband reported her missing for several days.

The two told police that the woman had come to them to take her to a scholar known for treating psychological illness and that they decided to murder her to steal her jewelry.

They said one of them hammered her on the head while the other stuffed her body into a bag and dumped it into the Nile.

“Her family and relatives were receiving mourners on her death although divers failed to find her body,” the Middle East news agency said, quoting Egyptian newspapers.

“Suddenly, she walked into her house accompanied by a man, who said she asked him to take her back home…in moments, after her relatives overcame their shock, the mourning mood turned into a festival.”

The papers quoted the woman as saying she woke up inside the bag later and managed to free herself. “She said that she found herself floating on the surface of the Nile as dense plants and flowers in that area prevented the bag from sinking.”
