16 people die in stampede in north India
An official says 16 people have died in a stampede during a religious ceremony on the banks of the Ganga river in northern India.
Amit Chandola, a government spokesman, says another 50 people were injured on Tuesday in Haridwar, a temple town in Uttar Pradesh state at the foothills of the Himalayas where the Ganga enters the plains of northern India.
