5 Uzbekistanis die from alcohol poisoning in Saint Petersburg

Five workers from Uzbekistan were found dead at a building site in Saint Petersburg after having apparently consumed adulterated alcohol, local authorities said.

"The bodies of five seasonal workers aged 19 to 53 were recovered at the building site in Shushary (in the south of the city). Another 20-year-old man is in a coma," a spokesman said.

Investigators believe the victims consumed adulterated alcohol. Poisoning from home-brewed or distilled alcohol is widespread throughout Russia, causing around half a million deaths every year.
