6.1-magnitude quake shakes southern Panama

A strong earthquake measuring 6.1 hit southern Panama early Saturday, the US government reported.

The epicenter of the quake, which occurred at 3.19 am local time (0819 GMT), was located 179km south of the city of David, near the border with Costa Rica, according to the US Geological Survey.
