8 bodies found dumped in swamp in Mexico

Mexican authorities have found eight dead people in a mangrove swamp of a Gulf coast state that has seen a recent surge in the large-scale dumping of bodies during an outbreak of violence among rival drug cartels.

The Veracruz state Attorney General's Office says an anonymous tip led federal police and troops to the bodies Tuesday near the city of Boca del Rio. Federal security forces have deployed in the state since masked gunmen dumped 35 bodies on a main highway in that city in September.

Mexican officials have blamed that body bump and others on a battle between the Zetas drug cartel and rival gangs.

Authorities say a body also was found in the Veracruz state city of Coatzacoalcos.
