At least 10 die in Congolese rail accident

At least 10 people were killed Wednesday and several others injured when a goods train derailed in western Democratic Republic of Congo, local authorities said.

The train derailed and fell onto its side on a section of track a few kilometres from a station in Western Kasai province.

"Eight carriages derailed and are lying completely on their side on the track," said a local chief, Laudes Nkashama.

Nkashama blamed the delapidated state of the 40-year-old track for the accident.

The train was travelling on the Kananga-Lubumbashi line.
