An empty 650-foot ferry is still ablaze in the Baltic Sea after an explosion on its upper deck engulfed the vessel and forced the evacuation of almost 250 people aboard.
Germany's Central Command for Maritime Emergencies said on Sunday the fire on the Lisco Gloria was still burning in the ferry's rear part, but it appears to slowly fade away.
Firefighting ships kept spraying the vessel with water throughout the night to keep it from breaking apart and spilling some 170 tonnes of fuel into the Baltic Sea off Denmark's coast. Authorities say an accident triggered the explosion and the blaze on the Lithuanian- flagged ferry that was traveling from Germany to Lithuania on Saturday.
All 249 people were rescued by other ships rushing to the scene, 28 people suffered injuries.
