Fiancee's Facebook post lands thief in jail

A man has been arrested for stealing a diamond solitaire ring worth $3,200 from a jewellery shop in Washington.

The police was tipped off when a woman posted an image of the engagement ring on her Facebook page and her friends noticed that the image on the social networking site matched those that were aired on television earlier as being stolen.

The man apparently stole the valuable piece of jewellery from Burlington Town Center Mall where he was looking at jewellery for about an hour. He later proposed to his girlfriend with the stolen ring.

The girl was unfortunately wearing the ring when the police arrived following the tip-off.

The man admitted to stealing the ring. The girl was let-off as she was unaware that the ring was stolen property.
