Gunmen kill 14 paramilitary soldiers in Pakistan

A spokesman for the paramilitary Frontier Corps says gunmen ambushed one of the group's convoys in southwestern Pakistan, killing 14 soldiers.

Murtaza Baig says the three-vehicle convoy was attacked on Monday as it was travelling from Chamalang to Dukhi in Baluchistan province. Ten soldiers were wounded in the attack, which occurred about 90 miles (150 kilometers) northeast of the provincial capital, Quetta.

The Baluchistan Liberation Army claimed responsibility for the attack. The group's spokesman, Azad Baluch, claimed fighters killed 40 soldiers in the attack.

Baluchi militants have been waging an insurgency against the government for decades, demanding greater independence and a larger share of the province's natural resources.
