Indian spiritual leader Sai Baba, one of the country's most famous gurus, died in hospital on Sunday morning, television channels reported.
He passed away at the age of 85 due to cardio-respiratory failure after spending more than three weeks in critical condition, the NDTV news channel quoted doctors as saying.
Thousands of followers massed at the hospital where Sai Baba was being treated in his hometown of Puttaparthi, in southern Andhra Pradesh state, with police using barriers to hold back crowds of mourners.
