The President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Monday was briefed by Secretary-General of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC) Abdullatif Al Zayani on efforts being made by the GCC to find a solution for the current crisis in Yemen.
Sheikh Khalifa also exchanged views with Al Zayyani, who is on a visit to Abu Dhabi, on the role the GCC plays in finding a solution to the Yemeni crisis in light of the phone call Sheikh Khalifa had received from Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh.
Al Zayyani also briefed Sheikh Khalifa on the outcome of the ministerial meeting of GCC member states in Riyadh yesterday, the forthcoming visit of Al Zayyani to Yemen, as well as the current contacts being made by the GCC Secretariat General on the consultative GCC summit this month.
In remarks at the meeting, Sheikh Khalifa expressed confidence that the summit of GCC leaders will contribute to efforts to strengthen the march of the council to live up to the aspirations of the peoples of its member countries.
For his part, Al Zayyani thanked President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and expressed appreciation for the support extended by the UAE to him in his new position as Secretary General.
He further stressed that the GCC leaders are interested in promoting contacts to implement the resolutions issued by the previous GCC summit.
Present at the meeting were Lt General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs and Ahmed Juma Al Zaabi, Deputy Minister of Presidential Affairs.
