US media reports said Captain Lampe was a member of Southeast Christian Church, where pastor Dave Stone said he was known as a family man, a man who served others and a man who loved the Lord.
“Nobody has to worry about where he is for eternity,” Stone said. Lampe's wife, Cindy Lampe, declined to comment pending meetings with UPS officials.
Some relatives of the crew members were en route Saturday to Dubai to accompany their loved ones' remains home. Outside the Lampes' home near Glen Oaks Country Club in Prospect, somber family members gathered and friends came to offer condolences, reported Courier Journal.
It said UPS typically runs two flights in and out of Dubai each day. The plane that crashed operated from Hong Kong before landing in Dubai and was headed for the UPS hub in Cologne, Germany.
The Hong Kong-Dubai-Cologne route is a regular one, with the last leg running six hours and 40 minutes.
According to Orlando Sentinel Bell's mother said he was a former Marine who became hooked on flying after getting a chance to go on a flight with the Navy’s Blue Angels aerobatic team.
Bell was married and had a 4-year-old daughter, the newspaper said. Lampe was a devoted family man who had two children: a daughter, Kelly, in second grade and a son, Andrew, in kindergarten, the media quoted Tim Antkowiak, a staff videographer at Southeast Christian Church.
As a pilot, Lampe worked seven days on and seven days off, Antkowiak said. On his days off Lampe often volunteered at Southeast Christian, the Journal report said.
Orlando Sentinal said that Matthew Bell of Sanford grew up in Eau Claire, a small Wisconsin city whose name is French for "clear water."
Instead, Bell found his passion in the clear skies. "Nancy Bell, Matthew's mother, said that when her son was a Marine, he was given the opportunity to accompany the Navy's Blue Angels aerobatic team on a flight.”
“He got to go out and fly with the Blue Angels," she said.
"That was it, that was what he wanted." Her son soon moved to Florida, she said, to attend flight school. His dream was to see the world. On Friday, Bell died living his dream, the report said.
