Media netted Dh5.3bn from ads in 2011

Media institutions netted Dh5.3 billion from commercial advertisements in 2011 and newspapers emerged as the most attractive destination, accounting for more than half the income.

Data published by the Sharjah-based  Arabic language daily Alkhaleej showed printed media remained the main target by advertisers while cinema houses were the least attractive, not exceeding one per cent.

Printed newspapers earned Dh3.1bn from commercials last year, accounting for nearly 59 per cent of the total, the report showed.

Printed magazines netted Dh848 million, nearly 16 per cent while the value of TV advertisements stood at Dh583m, amounting to 11 per cent.

Commercials in foreign media were estimated at Dh477m or around nine per cent while their value stood at Dh212m in local radio stations (four per cent) and Dh53m in cinema houses (one per cent).
