Mexico arrests couple that killed daughter

A couple accused of fatally beating their four-year-old daughter and hiding the crime was arrested in Tijuana, near the US border, after six months at large, Mexican authorities said on Tuesday.

The couple, which allegedly disguised the crime by claiming their daughter was fatally struck by a car, will now be prosecuted for murder and could face up to 50 years in prison, according to attorney general Rommel Moreno of the Mexican state of Baja California.

The parents even went so far as to show loved ones an urn allegedly containing the ashes of the girl.

But the alleged cover-up was exposed when the girl’s body was found in a field. Her aunt then identified the girl’s photo, provided by investigators.
