More than 100 'killed' in south Libya tribal clashes

Libyan Air Force pilots Colonel Abdullah al-Salheen (C) and Colonel Ali Al-Rabti (R) pose for pictures with members of the Libyan community living in Malta during a farewell ceremony marking the return of the two Libyan Air Force Mirage F1 fighter planes to Libya, at the Armed Forces of Malta Air Squadron base in Malta International Airport, outside Valletta. The much-expected return of the two Libyan Air Force Mirage F1 jets to Libya from Malta has since been delayed, due to bad weather conditions in both countries. The jets were scheduled to fly off on Tuesday morning, exactly on the anniversary of their unexpected arrival after al-Salheen and Al-Rabti refused to bomb fellow Libyans outside Benghazi, according to local media. Fierce clashes between two tribes in Libya's remote southeastern desert have killed more than 100 people over the past 10 days, tribal sources said on Tuesday.

At least 113 people from the Toubu tribe and another 20 from the Zwai tribe have been killed in the desert town of Kufra since the fighting erupted there between the two tribes on February 12, Toubu chief Isaa Abdelmajid told AFP.
