Detectives in Northern Ireland have arrested five men in their investigation of a bomb which killed a police officer.

Police said Tuesday that searches were under way in four towns following the arrests.

Constable Ronan Kerr, a 25-year-old Catholic recruit to the force, was killed by a booby-trap bomb which exploded beneath his car on April 2.

Police have blamed the attack on dissident members of the Irish Republican Army who refuse to accept the group's cease-fire. One man has previously been charged.
