Romney blasts Obama on Europe

Republican White House hopeful Mitt Romney, reveling in his New Hampshire primary win, slammed US President Barack Obama on Tuesday for trying to create a "European-style entitlement society."

"I want you to remember when our White House reflected the best of who we are, not the worst of what Europe has become," Romney said in his victory speech, surrounded by family and cheering supporters.

Obama "wants to turn America into a European-style entitlement society. We want to ensure that we remain a free and prosperous land of opportunity."

Warning that Obama sought to "fundamentally transform" the United States, Romney said he wanted the November election to be "about restoring American greatness," as the frontrunner prepared for the next primary in South Carolina.

"The path I lay out is not one paved with ever-increasing government checks and cradle-to-grave assurances that government will always be the solution," Romney said.

With the polls closed, US media projected Romney would easily win in New Hampshire, becoming the first Republican candidate who is not an incumbent president to win first in Iowa and then in this northeastern state.
