The Australian Government says security remains the number one priority for Australia’s team in planning for the October 3-14 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.

Sports Minister Kate Ellis said the recent allegations of corruption in the organisation of the games and the delays in construction of venues were of less concern than the security for athletes from Australia, which has won more medals than any nation at the event, which comprises countries of the former British Empire.

Ellis said the Australian government was working with Indian organisers and Australian authorities “so that hopefully we can see a successful Games go ahead”.

Australia’s delegation will comprise about 425 athletes and 175 staff and officials.
