Staff meeting at boss's house turns ugly

A business meeting in the flat of an employer regarding embezzlement suspicions ended up in a brawl that resulted in a 5 per cent permanent disability for one of two employee who fought, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

SMD, 33, Syrian, clerk was accused of assaulting his colleague IAH, 35, Egyptian, public relations clerk.

SMD was also accused of assaulting and abusing colleague NAK who is IAH’s wife; as well as his employer IMA.

The Egyptian IAH is accused of assaulting the Syrian SMD.

According to the records, on June 8, the owner and manager of Wall Street Real Estate, had a meeting with some of the company’s staff in her house in Karama for discussing embezzlement of Dh7,250.

SMD and IAH were suspected and each accused the other, testified IMA, 31, Emirati trader, the owner of the company.

She testified that NAK who is the wife of IAH reminded SMD of an earlier conversation he had with her and her husband. On being confrontated, SMD had to admit to the embezzlement and burst in anger abusing IAH using bad words and slapping her in her face and punching her chest, she testified.

IAH stood up and held SMD’s hand trying to prevent him from attacking his wife. Then the two started fighting. “Other men who were attending the meeting tried to stop the fight, after that I fell unconscious as SMD threw an ash tray and a wooden piece that hit my head… when I woke up I called the police,” she testified.

Ali Sultan, 20, policeman, fiancé of the IAH’s sister was present when the fight broke out. He repeated the same testimony and said that after SMD threw the ash tray, the Egyptian stood on a chair but the Syrian pulled him down and sat on him punching him several times.

NAK, 40, Egyptian, clerk, said that all men who were attending the meeting tried to pull SMD away, but he caused him injury in his knee. The ambulance arrived with the police and he was rushed to Rashid hospital.

IAH, testified that his right leg knee needed a surgery and that he stayed in the hospital from June 8 to 21.

Forensic reported that IAH had a permanent disability estimated at 5 per cent and that the fracture needed chips and nails to fix.

The court adjourned the case until October 9.
