Suspected Al Qaida gunmen kill 4 in Yemen

A Yemeni security official says suspected Al-Qaida militants on motorcycles have killed three electricity department workers and a security guard in an attack on a vehicle carrying government money.

The official says four gunmen attacked the vehicle as it drove to deposit electricity department funds in a bank in Zinjibar, the capital of the southern province of Abyan. It was not immediately clear whether the attackers escaped with the money. Three people were wounded in Sunday's attack.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not allowed to brief the media.

Yemen's government is wrestling with a growing al-Qaida threat from militants who are increasing their operations in the impoverished and largely lawless country on the southern tip of the Arabian Peninsula.
