Scotland Yard says it has fired one of its most high-profile minority officers after he was found guilty of misconduct.
The dismissal of Ali Dizaei comes after the outspoken Iranian-born police commander spent much of the last decade in the spotlight over issues of race and repeated allegations of misconduct.
Dizaei first came under suspicion in 2000, when he was investigated by his own force over claims including bribe-taking, expense-faking and even spying for Iran. He was eventually cleared of wrongdoing, but the fallout from the probe was so toxic that the head of a major black officers' group urged nonwhite candidates in 2003 to boycott Scotland Yard.
Tuesday's dismissal follows Dizaei's conviction on charges stemming from an altercation outside a London nightclub in 2008.
